This was revealed in a statement titled “Lagos Education Varsity: Thank you for taking education as a serious business” and signed by the National Public Relations Officer of the association, Mr. Opeyemi Eniola.
The statement quoted the National President of the Association, Dr. Shina Akintolure, as saying that “the College is ever ready as there are structure and infrastructure that can accommodate the University.
He added that “the College is blessed with adequate man power both academics and administration, the College as at today can boast of over eighty – two doctorate degree holders from different disciplines and still counting, the College is blessed with Land mass and the closeness to Ogun state on the west and it’s good location will attract students from neighbouring Ogun State and foreign Countries of Benin, Togo, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and host of others”.
The President further explained that “with the take off of the University of Education it would help in the adequate supply of Graduate Teachers to Lagos state Primary and Post Primary Schools”.
It could be recalled that the Lagos State House of Assembly had ratified the establishment of the Lagos State University of Education.
This ratification was sequel to the report presentation on Wednesday by Hon. Ajani Owolabi, Chairman House Committee on Education (Tertiary Institutions).
The University of Education, Lagos Bill, 2021, titled,” A Bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the University of Education Lagos(UNEDLAG) and for connected purposes” was altered to read Lagos State University of Education (LASUED).
While appreciating the alumni of the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education in the assembly; Hon. Ibraheem Layode and Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, the association also commended traditional rulers, and the state assembly members across the Badagry Division and the members Representing the host communities (Ojo); Hon. Victor Akande and Hon. Surajudeen Tijani respectively, and all lawmakers for theirs efforts in making the project a reality.
“The giant strides of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is commendable and signing the bill into law and considering the recommendations will be the best move for the growth of the education sector,” the statement added.
